It’s really useful to have a shorter or crop cardigan to wear with dresses or skirts at this time of year and we’ve got some great choices.
From French brand Des Petits Hauts there’s the Blanca cardigan which is a v-neck, really easy-to-wear and it’s a pretty blue with marl flecks. Can’t go wrong with this navy blue.
One of our favourites this season is the Alouise cardigan from DPH. We love it so much we offer it in 4 colours. If you choose black it goes with everything but there’s a really fun petal pink and a bang on trend rust, plus a lilac if you’re a fan of lilac. With two laid-on pockets at the front and woven with 2% elastane it keeps its shape brilliantly. What we love about this is it’s relaxed slightly oversized styling and as it’s a v-neck with buttons it is flattering on any bust shape. We would recommend you go down a size. We really rate this cardigan and because it’s plain it literally goes with everything. And it’s made from beautiful Italian yarn.
From Belgian brand Bellerose in Antwerp there’s the Rafig cardigan, which is a green marl with really stylish oversized buttons and a subtle Victorian shoulder. Also, the Naneci cardigan in a neutral oatmeal yarn. With lovely, oversized buttons, almost a funnel neck, this would work brilliantly over a dress.
You can’t go wrong with the Gestuz cardigan called the Alpha in capers melange or dark slate melange. It’s a great value cardigan in a gorgeous, spongy yarn. It’s has a v-neck and fabric buttons. With Victorian cuffs, it’s very stylish and finishes beautifully around your waist so looks great with dresses. Again, it’s woven with 6% elastane so keeps its shape. If you’re on a budget, I really rate this cardigan.
These are all plain or marl knits. If you want a shorter cardigan with a pattern, then we would recommend the Fairisle green/rose cardigan from Jumper1234. It’s selling fast and is the most gorgeous pink, grey and apple green. It has a drop shoulder and if you’re wearing a plain dress and want a bit of design, this is a great cardigan.
The Essential Antwerp Check Knitted Jacket is a brilliant hybrid between a jacket and a cardigan in a lovely green check with two horn buttons. This has sold out once already and we’re just about to restock. It has two side hidden pockets and is a lovely V with a collar. What we love about this is it’s super soft and you can wear it instead of a jacket.
Finally, the signature cardigan from Stine Goya is the checkerboard Amara cardigan. This is a great fun piece that they have in their collections most seasons. This time it’s in an apple green and navy, an easy to wear colour combination. You’ll need to go down a size on this one.
All these shorter cardigans for dresses would look great with Veja trainers. For jackets, we suggest the shorter quilted Elin jacket from Rails or the Akoko from Munthe.
Here are some of our suggestions of dresses that would go perfectly with these cardigans - the Rosanna in Ozelot from Dea Kudibal, the Phoenix dress from Ba&sh, the Eliza cotton dress in autumn print from Pink City Prints, or the Chiara from Stine Goya which is a knitted dress.
There are loads of choices to wear this season in terms of short cardigans for dresses or even skirts. I hope you like our selection from our Scandi and northern European brands.
