Leather is a very Scandi fashion look. The Danes wear leather every day. Hence why we buy all our leather from three Danish brands, MDK (Munderingskompagniet), Day Birger et Mikkelsen and 2nd Day. The Danes really know how to make leather a fashionable and desirable product.
Having bought Danish styles for over 10 years I have been lucky enough to build up a collection of leather skirts and trousers (yes, I even have a red leather skirt now!). They wear brilliantly, get better with age and tend to take a long time to date. I’m still wearing my Marvin skirt from four years ago with a 360 Cashmere and a pair of Veja trainers for a day look, or a heel and Dea Kudibal blouse for an evening look.
Styling Your Leather
If you want to update your look and be bang on trend, definitely consider buying a piece of leather in the form of a skirt or a trouser. You may already have a leather jacket, as they’ve been a wardrobe staple for a number of years. If you don’t, look no further than these three styles: the Seattle Thin, the Seattle, and the slightly shorter Rucy.
The Rucy is the perfect fit to pair with your skirt or dress, as it gives a pretty item a more trendy and edgy look. We particularly love its stand collar. But be warned you will need to go up one to two sizes. So, if you are a UK 10 (equivalent of a Danish 36), you need to be taking a 38 or a 40.
I would never recommend doing up your leather jackets because this isn’t how you wear them, but if you want to check the fit on trying it on, they should feel snug. From a styling point of view you would always wear your leather jacket undone.
Leather Trousers and Skirts
The Marvin is a great place to start if you’re looking for a leather skirt. But we have also received a new style, the Beatrice. This is a button-through A-line leather skirt in two colours.
When shopping for leather trousers, you should try the MDK Iris leather trouser in black. This is a loose boyfriend jogger style so you will need to size down. If this isn’t your look, then you can’t go wrong with the Day Birger Leah skinny leather trouser in black. It never fails to look stylish!
Two new leather styles that you might not have are the Vincent jogger, new in from Day Birger et Mikkelsen, or, for an evening look, the Mabella flare leather trouser. This looks great with a killer pair of heels, a pretty ba&sh blouse, a Day Birger Hector blazer and Caroline Svedbom earrings.
I can wholeheartedly recommend investing in a style of leather that will instantly update your look. So, if you want to rock Scandi style, adding a piece of leather to your daily wardrobe will get you one step closer.
