Top 5 Gilets this Autumn and How to Style Them

4 September 2025

Gilets, with their warm body and sleeveless cut, are brilliant transitional pieces that are a big trend right now as we head into autumn. We love how layerable they are and, though usually part of a day outfit, they can be styled for an evening too, if you’d like to try something a bit different.

Tie your pieces together by picking a tonal colour from your gilet, then select a blouse or top in the same colour. For trousers, you can’t go wrong with a pair of jeans: Paige has a great variety of styles, as you’ll see in this guide.

Here’s a showcase of some of our favourite new gilets and how we’d style them for a fabulous autumn look.

JaceLL gilet by Lollys Laundry

Cosy and Cuddly

Our newest designer, Lollys Laundry, has a great selection of slightly quirky styles that we just love. The JaceLL gilet is cosy and fun, made of a soft teddy fabric with a fun leopard embroidered on the back. The big cat theme continues with leopard-print piping and buttons that nicely contrast with the main beige.

Pair this with the pretty yet unassuming Gladis blouse by Sacrécoeur. The long sleeves pair well with a gilet, and the colour matches beautifully. The Gladis has tone-on-tone embroidery patterns and small puff sleeves for shape. Finally, add the Sasha ankle cuff jean in chocolate for a colour combo that’s just right for this season.

Alibou cardigan by Des Petits Hauts

Chocolate Shades

The Alibou cardigan is full of fabulous texture thanks to its mohair blend and chocolate tones. A high neck and button front ensure you can keep warm on those brisker days, especially when paired with another Des Petits Hauts piece, the Tessa blouse. This check blouse is a super soft cotton blend with a ruffled collar that adds femininity and originality.

To finalise this folky combo you can reuse the Sasha ankle cuff jean - we can’t resist a versatile piece! The rich tones and wide cuffed hem really add a spark to this outfit.

CairoLL gilet by Lollys Laundry

A Shock of Colour

Lollys Laundry’s CairoLL gilet isn’t just any gilet! This colourful piece is a real delight both to admire and to wear. If you love bold, expressive prints and showers of colour, then this is the jacket for you. A dark, slightly padded base is awash with warm oranges, greens and pinks, with a button fastening and two front pockets. You’ve got plenty of colour choices when it comes to pairing a top, but we’ve opted for the dazzlingly pink GemmaLL shirt by the same designer. The Gemma has a romantic vintage elegance with a decorative yoke, ruffles, and broderie angalise.

Wrap this outfit up with some Le Slim palazzo jeans by Frame. The deep blue Stargirl shade nicely contrasts with the bright colours of the top half, balancing it all out for a wonderful look.

Zlata gilet by Des Petits Hauts

Cool and Casual

Shades of brown are all the rage this season, and this taupe-coloured outfit is the height of style. Our feature piece is Des Petits Hauts’ Zlata gilet, made of bouclé wool and cosy as you like. It’s very minimalistic, so easy to style with almost anything, but we love a bit of contrast given by the check cotton Yasmina blouse by Feeka. The long sleeved patterned shirt has outstanding ruffle details around the collar, placket and cuffs, which really elevates the outfit.

Our jeans of choice for this look are the Arellia ankle jeans by Paige. In black, these vintage-look trousers have a high-waisted barrel leg, with a cropped ankle and a stretch fit.

Ishani gilet by Essentiel Antwerp

Evening Fire

Whoever told you that gilets are daywear obviously never laid eyes on the Ishani gilet! Essentiel Antwerp’s piece is a real looker with its red and white shaded stripes and soft fringe details. Cut from a textured wool-blend bouclé, it’s a boxy fit that can be worn open or closed for a snug fitted feel.

You could tone down the red of the Ishani with a white or cream blouse, but we prefer to soak in the fiery tones by learning it on top of the red Ifire shirt, also by Essentiel Antwerp. This spectacular blouse is cut from a lightweight fabric, so works well under the tight-fitting Ishani. It includes dropped shoulders and a soft ruffle detail along the sleeves for a relaxed and oversized fit.

And, ensuring this outfit is good to go for an evening out, we’ve added Paige’s Sasha 32 jeans in black fog luxe. No ordinary pair of jeans, these trousers have a cool leather look that nonetheless have all the comfort of TRANSCEND denim.
