The Perfect Jeans After 40

Style and fashion aren’t just the domains of the young and, while we might not be able to get away with as much as we did in our twenties, there are plenty of gorgeous luxury brands out there for us to pick from. This week we’re talking denim, and jeans in particular. This wardrobe staple comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but sometimes it can be a bit of a struggle to pick out something flattering: what worked for us 10 years ago might not look quite right now.

But not to worry, with our selection of designer denim from the best luxury women’s brands, you’ll find something that will look both super flattering and super stylish. We’ve selected our favourite jeans for over 40s, with some pointers on the kind of body shape they work well for. 1. Anessa jeans

The Anessa disco by Paige Jeans has been our bestselling style for years. Ultra high-waisted with a wide leg, they’re versatile and made of quality stuff. The deep blue jeans have a 27 inch leg so have an ankle-length silhouette as standard but will look further cropped if you have longer legs. However, because this style is so popular, Paige has also released a longer, 31-inch option so you can opt for this fuller length if you prefer. We love the longer leg in allusion blue.

2. Le Slim palazzo jean

Another bestseller, the Le Slim palazzo jean is bang on trend this season (and, we’re sure, for seasons to come). Similar to the Anessa with its high waist and wide leg, it has a longer 31-inch seam and a super stretch fabric that can hide all sorts of sins. The Stargirl - a dark blue verging on black with contrast stitching - is our current favourite colour in this style.

3. Sasha 32 jeans

If you’re tall or have a longer leg, the Sasha 32 jean could be the perfect fit. With a 32-inch leg, it’s a high-rise straight jean with a relaxed fit. It’s ideal if you have narrow hips, as the column shape is really flattering on slender body shapes. The Sasha 32 comes in a few colour options: white, ecru and a black fog luxe, which has a leather look. They’re all made of lovely comfortable stretch denim.

4. Genevieve jeans

If you have a curvy figure, then the style of the Genevieve jeans is excellent. Sitting high on the waist, they have plenty of stretch and great recovery. A generously flared kick at the hem really helps to balance you out. They bring a vintage look and all the comfort of an oft-worn pair of jeans while maintaining the luxury quality we’ve come to expect from Paige Jeans.

5. Cindy jean

The cropped Cindy jean in soleil blue is an ideal choice for ladies in their 40s and above. With a 28-inch seam, these will be cropped if you have a longer leg - which works beautifully. However, we think these jeans are particularly flattering on shorter, narrower legs. If you haven’t quite managed the transfer from skinny jeans to straight legs, these are a great “gateway” option. The leg is straight, but the slim feel still offers a nod towards skinny jeans.
