The three big tennis events of the year are just around the corner: the HSBC Championships at Queens (7 - 22 Jun), Lexus Nottingham (14 - 22 Jun) and, of course, Wimbledon (30 Jun - 13 Jul). Each one is a great opportunity to show off your best summer outfits.
Our go-to rule for choosing a dress for tennis season is to pick either a midi or maxi to protect you from too much sun. Add some sleeves for extra protection, too: it doesn’t hurt to be practical as well as stylish! A natural fabric is the best way forward as the material is breathable and prevents any embarrassing hot-weather marks.
So with those top tips in mind, here are some of our best picks for the upcoming tennis season!
The ElinaDea dress by Dea Kudibal is a completely on-trend piece with its bohemian look. The cotton maxi dress comes in three great patterns, each following a similar shape but with greatly varying patterns so you can select the one that best suits your personality. Inspired by the Art Nouveau era, it’s made of 100% lightweight cotton, with a stand collar and voluminous elbow-length sleeves.
Spectacular and unique, Dea Kudibal’s SalmaDEA dress is 100% fine linen so absolutely ideal for those hot summer days. It has three-quarter-length sleeves and a contrast-print fabric belt to add shape. But the real standout part of this lovely dress is the pattern, an intricate antique etching of a desert landscape. Just stunning!
A shirt dress is always a winner in our opinion, and the Table scarf midi dress by Farm Rio truly is fabulous. Designed in a deep blue and white stripe cotton, it has vibrant tropical patterned panelling on the sleeves and across the chest. Wear it loose for an oversized look, or make use of the tie belt to add shape. You’ll turn heads either way.
Wow! You’ll certainly get yourself noticed in the Mila dress with its balloon sleeves, blue and white stripe pattern, and plunging neckline. Altogether, they make a very flattering silhouette and the longer length of both the sleeves and the skirt make this ideal for watching the tennis in hot weather.
Hanging loosely from the body and made from 100% linen, the summery Noddy dress by Palm Noosa is a perfectly cool and relaxed dress for summer. A candyfloss pink base colour is covered in a strawberry stamp print, with blouson sleeves that look effortlessly relaxed. The piece is finished off with a button down front and matching buckled belt.
Tennis season isn’t just about dresses, as Essentiel Antwerp undisputedly demonstrates with their trouser suit combo. In dark green, this lightweight outfit oozes sophistication. The Hontgomery wide leg trousers sit comfortably high on the waist, with a fluid and relaxed silhouette that has a slight sporty touch. Meanwhile, the Hunstville top is off-the-shoulder with a gracefully draped ruffle layer across the chest.
Bold and beautiful are two words that perfectly describe the Pineapple deco maxi dress. If you love to make an impact when you walk into a room (or onto the stands), then this is the dress for you. Farm Rio has added dazzle and charm with this white dress that’s embellished with golden stripes and intricate Art Deco-style pineapple motifs. A really joyful style, it features a puff sleeve, v-neckline, and maxi length.
Combining sophistication and playfulness, the Clementine by Rails is a midi sundress with cute flutter sleeves and an attractive v-neck. The crisp black cotton poplin has feminine smocking as well as pretty, soft yellow florals dotted across it. Add to that a scalloped hem, handy pockets, and a tiered skirt, and you can see why this is the perfect dress for a day at the tennis.
Block-printed by hand in a neon pink floral pattern, the Sofia dress by Pink City Prints is the perfect tennis season dress. Colourful and summery, it has a flattering v-neck, adjustable drawstring waist, and side seam pockets. The delightful dress is made from 100% organic cotton with a midi length and three-quarter length sleeves, meaning you’ll be both cool and protected from the sun.
