Summer is the season for al fresco lunches and indulgent brunches, and in the UK we certainly know how to do them well! Think finger sandwiches, scones loaded with creams, and a bellini to wash it down.
These meals are perfect for a catch-up, but the ever-present question looms: what to wear to a ladies lunch? It’s a treat, so you don’t want to go too casual, but it’s too early in the day to go fully dressed up.
Never fear, if you’ve ever worried over what to wear to an afternoon lunch or a late-morning brunch, you can rest easy. Here are some of the latest styles from our favourite designers that make getting dressed for a ladies lunch a breeze!
The beautiful all-over print of the Portland dress is perfectly in character for luxury designer Munthe. And, because of their commitment to reducing waste, each pattern is placed slightly differently, making each dress just that little bit unique.
The Portland is elegant and classy: long sleeves, a tied waist and midi length combine to make us feel great. And there are pockets to boot - so you can show them off to all your friends at lunch!
If dresses aren’t your thing, then try another bold style by Munthe. The matching Paine silk shirt and Arum silk trousers can be worn together for a statement look that will turn heads as you take your seat. The short-sleeved shirt is designed for a loose fit with a small collar and button front. The trousers, meanwhile, are full-length with an elasticated waist and side pockets. Together, the colourful artsy print dazzles on a creamy silk background.
Of course, you can also wear them as separates. We like the shirt with a pair of Paige jeans and the trousers with the linen Akira top. These plainer accompaniments really make the pattern pop.
We love the summery beach vibe of the Loulou dress in a classic blue and white jalisco stripe. Ideal for a ladies’ lunch along the banks of the River Thames or on a delightful terrace, this luxury Rails piece is a great choice for your afternoon. This piece is super easy to wear, with plenty of stretch around the smocked waist, so there’s enough room for an extra sandwich or two! The maxi dress also features a v neckline and tiered skirt with ruffle details. Equal parts feminine and fun, it’s no wonder this is a favourite at Feather & Stitch.
Fabulous and floaty, BA&SH’s Kamala top is all the rage this season. In a deep chocolate brown, the gorgeous summer blouse has slightly sheer sleeves and a tie that can be worn loose around the neck or in a pretty pussy bow. A metallic print in mustard and white finishes off this look.
Wear the Kamala top with Frame’s Le slim palazzo jeans for a look that can take you from lunch and into the evening.
